Midland announces the addition of Site Monitoring and Channel Steering

Kansas City, MO (February 23, 2011) - Midland Radio Corporation announces the addition of Site Monitoring and Channel Steering to expand the capabilities of its P25 digital products.

Site Monitoring

The Site Monitoring option increases safety and efficiency by allowing remote monitoring of base/repeater station performance. Remote site monitoring is accomplished by the use of low speed data capability specified by the P25 protocol. The following operating parameters can now be observed as they are displayed on a local Base Tech III control station:

·         B+ voltage

·         RF power (an indicator of high temperature, high VSWR, or component failure)

·         RX synthesizer status

·         Receiver performance

Channel Steering

The Channel Steering option offers further efficiencies and risk reduction. This technology allows channel steering to occur remotely via a companion radio link. The linked Base Tech III radio receives and recognizes Network Access Codes (NAC) and converts them to serial data. This data is then communicated to the other remote Base Tech III, directing appropriate channel selection.

This valuable technology allows a remote base station to be steered to the desired repeater by wireless connection. This is particularly effective when multiple repeaters require access from a control station that cannot access them directly by RF. The reductions in risk, time and cost make this technology invaluable. Inter-operability is also enhanced since the remote base station can be steered to an analog or digital repeater. The necessary analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog translation takes place at the remote site.

More on Midland Base Stations

Base Tech III P25 state-of-the-art base stations and repeaters are designed for government, public safety and business applications. Built for 100% continuous duty, the Midland Base Tech units are designed to withstand even the most severe working conditions, with a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of less than 0.991%. Fully digital, Midland P25 products meet APCO P25 common air interface standards for compatibility with other P25 radios (regardless of manufacturer). The Midland P25 products also can operate in analog mode, offering full backward compatibility with conventional wideband FM systems.

The P25 Base Tech III has multi-mode operation, 500 channel capacity, wide and narrow channel spacing per channel, low or high power per channel and standby current of less than 300mA. The Midland Base Tech III is programmable by channel for direct or repeat operation. And, as an industry first, Midland’s P25 Base Tech III Station boasts a 5 year warranty.
